Peanut butter:

1 - Peanut butter, popular in many countries, is a food paste made primarily from ground dry roasted peanuts.

2 - Peanut butter dates back to the Aztecs and the Incas.
Marcellus Gilmore Edson (February 7, 1849 – March 6, 1940) of Montreal, Quebec was the first to patent peanut butter, in 1884. Peanut flour already existed. His cooled product had "a consistency like that of butter, lard, or ointment" according to his patent application. He included the mixing of sugar into the paste so as to harden its consistency.

3 - A slang term for peanut butter in World War II was "monkey butter".

Antarctica :

1 - Antarctica is Earth's southernmost continent, the coldest, driest, and windiest, with the highest average elevation of all. It is nearly twice the size of Australia. 98% is covered by ice that averages 1.9 km (1.2 mi) in thickness. Although myths about a "Southern Land" date back to antiquity, it was only first sighted in 1820 by a Russian expedition. Organisms native to Antarctica include many types of algae, bacteria, fungi, plants, protista, and certain animals, such as mites, nematodes, penguins, seals and tardigrades. The first chjld born in the southern polar region was a Norwegian girl in October 1913. She was a daughter of the assistant manager of a whaling station.

2 - There are no permanent human residents, but up to 5,000 people reside throughout the year at the research stations of 30 nations scattered across the continent. Ongoing experiments include research in meteorology, climate, exploring the deep sea and the origins of life and the universe. The dry, cold and stable Antarctic atmosphere creates some of the best conditions on Earth for observing space. Lakes beneath Antarctic glaciers mimic conditions on Jupiter and Saturn's icy moons, and meteorites collected on the continent reveal how the Solar System formed and inform astrobiology. [see Nature 23, vol 512 (2014) for more on Antarctic research :) and g00gle sch0lar for the search ...]

3 - David Beckham produced a documentary for the BBC "David Beckham: For the Love of the Game" that takes us to all seven continents of the globe to play football in different cultural and climate environments. The game in Antarctica was most likely the coldest football game of his career, but also the easiest, since he played against scientists and tour guides. A documentary well worth seeing for its philosophy: The transformational influence sports have on people and how it can bring different cultures together.

Eurovision :

1 - The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is the longest-running annual international TV song competition. Starting with 7 countries in 1956 it grew to over 40 countries competing in three shows. Each participating country submits an original song to be performed on live television and radio and then casts votes for the other countries' songs to determine the most popular song in the competition. It is also one of the most watched non-sporting events in the world, with audience figures between 100 million and 600 million internationally. The youngest ever entrant was 13 winning in 1986, the oldest was 95 from Switzerland in 2013.

2 - Ireland holds the record for the highest number of wins, having won the contest 7 times - including four times in five years, closely followed by Sweden that of last year has one 6 times. The highest scoring winner is Russian Alexander Rybak who won the 2009 contest for Norway. Winning the Eurovision Song Contest rarely results in long-term success for the mostly unknown artists. Notable exceptions are ABBA (1974 for Sweden), Bucks Fizz (1981 for the United Kingdom) and Céline Dion (1988 for Switzerland). Bringing an internationally successful artist on stage is not the way to win the contest :winkwink ...

3 - Eurovision has also been broadcast outside Europe to several countries that do not compete, such as the USA, Australia and China. Since 2000, the contest has also been broadcast over the Internet, via the Eurovision website (though that misses the local commentator which makes a lot of the fun :thumbsup, pretty much like in sports with lots of statistics and trivia facts). Australia is particularly a big fan of Eurovision and was granted to compete in 2015 to commemorate the 60th anniversary, after already performing the intermediate act in 2014. They are most likely to stay a permanent contestant. :winkwink

Rat Pack :

1 - The Rat Pack was a group of actors originally centered on their leader, Humphrey Bogart, until his death in 1957. By the 1960s it was the name used by the press and the general public to refer to a later variation of the group that called itself "the Summit" or "the Clan," featuring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop; they appeared together on stage and in films in the early 1960s, including the movies Ocean's 11,
Sergeants 3, and Robin and the 7 Hoods (in the last film, Bing Crosby replaced Lawford). Sinatra, Martin, and Davis were regarded as the group's lead members .

2 - Peter Lawford was a brother-in-law of President John F. Kennedy (dubbed "Brother-in-Lawford" by Sinatra), and Kennedy spent time with Sinatra and the others when he visited Las Vegas, during which members sometimes referred to the group as "the Jack Pack". Rat Pack members played a role in campaigning for Kennedy and the Democrats, appearing at the July 11, 1960 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles.

3 - On June 20, 1965, Sinatra, Martin, and Davis, with Johnny Carson as the emcee (substituting for Bishop, who was out with a bad back), performed their only televised concert together during the heyday of the Pack at the Kiel Opera House in St. Louis, a closed-circuit broadcast done as a fundraiser for Dismas House (the first halfway house for ex-convicts) and fed live to movie theatres across the country.

Top Three Bands :

According to Wikipedia's List of best-selling music artists, the top three groups are The Beatles, (single artists Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Elton John), Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd.

1 - The Beatles were an English rock band from Liverpool, active 1960-70. They became widely regarded as the foremost and most influential act of the rock era. In the early 1960s, their enormous popularity first emerged as "Beatlemania", but as the group's music grew in sophistication, led by primary songwriters Lennon and McCartney, they came to be perceived as an embodiment of the ideals shared by the counterculture of the 1960s. By early 1964 they had become international stars, leading the "British Invasion" of the United States pop market. They broke up in 1970. They have had more number-one albums on the British charts and sold more singles in the UK than any other act.

2 - Led Zeppelin were an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition as one of the progenitors of heavy metal, though their unique style drew from a wide variety of influences, including folk music. Their fourth album 1971, which features the track "Stairway to Heaven", is among the most popular and influential works in rock music, and it helped to secure the group's popularity. Led Zeppelin are widely considered one of the most successful, innovative, and influential rock groups in history. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

3 - Pink Floyd were an English rock band formed in London in 1965. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. Distinguished by their use of philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, extended compositions and elaborate live shows, they are one of the most commercially successful and influential groups in the history of popular music. "The Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall" became two of the best-selling albums of all time. Pink Floyd were inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005.

Rose species :

1 - There is significant disagreement over the number of true rose species. Some species are so similar that they could easily be considered variations of a single species, while other species show enough variation that they could easily be considered to be different species. Lists of rose species usually show between 100 and 150 with most botanists agreeing that the actual number is probably nearer the lower end of that range .

2 - Hulthemia (formerly Simplicifoliae, meaning "with single leaves") containing one or two species from southwest Asia, R. persica and R. berberifolia (syn. R. persica var. berberifolia) which are the only roses without compound leaves or stipules.
Hesperrhodos (from the Greek for "western rose") has two species, both from southwestern North America. These are R. minutifolia and R. stellata.
Platyrhodon (from the Greek for "flaky rose", referring to flaky bark) with one species from east Asia, R. roxburghii

3 - Rosa (the type subgenus) containing all the other roses. This subgenus is subdivided into 11 sections. Banksianae - white and yellow roses from China
Bracteatae - three species, two from China and one from India
Caninae - pink and white species from Asia, Europe and North Africa
Carolinae - white, pink, and bright pink species all from North America
Chinensis - white, pink, yellow, red and mixed-color roses from China and Burma
Gallicanae - pink to crimson and striped roses from western Asia and Europe
Gymnocarpae - a small group distinguished by a deciduous receptacle on the hip; one species in western North America (R. gymnocarpa), the others in east Asia
Laevigatae - a single white species from China
Pimpinellifoliae - white, pink, bright yellow, mauve and striped roses from Asia and Europe
Rosa (syn. sect. Cinnamomeae) - white, pink, lilac, mulberry and red roses from everywhere but North Africa
Synstylae - white, pink, and crimson roses from all areas

Sewing :

1 - Sewing is the craft of fastening or attaching objects using stitches made with a needle and thread. Sewing is one of the oldest of the textile arts, arising in the Paleolithic era. Before the invention of spinning yarn or weaving fabric, archaeologists believe Stone Age people across Europe and Asia sewed fur and skin clothing using bone, antler or ivory needles and "thread" made of various animal body parts including sinew, catgut, and veins.

2 - The 1844 poem "The Silesian Weavers" by Heinrich Heine about the misery during the industrial revolution was banned by authorities because of "its rebellious tone". This weaver-song complains about exploitation by factory owners, criticizes general political circumstances and pushes for change. In the poem, the weavers are ready, self-confident in promoting their interests, and persistent in working towards a fundamental change in Germany. Each verse ends with the refrain "We are weaving, we are weaving!" referring back to the first verse which says they're weaving Germany's burial shroud. The March Revolution of 1848 confirmed that a profound change in Germany was imminent. It was a first step towards the creation of a modern social system.

3 - The invention of the sewing machine in the 19th century and the rise of computerization in the later 20th century led to mass production and export of sewn objects, but hand sewing is still practised around the world. Fine hand sewing is a characteristic of high-quality tailoring, haute couture fashion, and custom dressmaking, and is pursued by both textile artists and hobbyists as a means of creative expression.

Brewing Beer :

1 - Brewing is the production of beer by steeping a starch source (commonly cereal grains, the most popular of which is barley) in water and fermenting the resulting sweet liquid with yeast.

2 - The basic ingredients of beer are water and a fermentable starch source such as malted barley. Most beer is fermented with a brewer's yeast and flavoured with hops .

3 - Steps in the brewing process include malting, milling, mashing, Sparging, lautering, boiling, fermenting, conditioning, filtering, and packaging. There are three main fermentation methods, warm, cool and spontaneous. Fermentation may take place in an open or closed fermenting vessel; a secondary fermentation may also occur in the cask or bottle. There are several additional brewing methods, such as barrel aging, double dropping, and Yorkshire Square.:drinkup

NBA Basketball :

1 - The National Basketball Association (NBA) is THE men's professional basketball league in North America, and probably the best in the world. The league was founded in New York City in 1946 and has 30 teams, 1 from Canada. The NBA is one of the four major North American professional sports leagues (next to baseball (MLB), football (NFL) and hockey (NHL)). NBA players are the world's best paid sportsmen. Some NBA players reach astounding international fame, beyond their active years such as Magic Johnson and Micheal Jordan, my favorite would then be Shaquille O'Neal for his great humor and personality. :thumbsup

2 - An increasing number of international players have moved to starring in the NBA since the 1980s. Most notably to me Dirk Nowitzki from Germany who became NBA Champion with the Dallas Mavericks (2011), FIBA Europe Player of the Years 2005 and 2011 and an 11-time NBA All-Star and many more. He entered the NBA in 1998 and is still frequently seen in TV spots in Europe.

3 - What would sports be without emotions from anger to irony? Here some (not so notable) jokes:
> What does a Cleveland Cavaliers fan do when his team has won the NBA Finals? - He turns off his playstation :).
> Why can't you play basketball in the jungle? - Because there are too many cheetahs!

Line Dance :

1 - A line dance is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows without regard for the gender of the individuals, all facing either each other or in the same direction, and executing the steps at the same time. Unlike circle dancing, line dancers are not in physical contact with each other.

2 - Line dancing is practiced and learned in country-western dance bars, social clubs, dance clubs and ballrooms. It is sometimes combined on dance programs with other forms of country-western dance, such as two-step, western promenade dances, and as well as western-style variants of the waltz, polka and swing. Line dances have accompanied many popular music styles since the early 1970s including pop, swing, rock and roll, disco, Latin (salsa suelta), rhythm and blues and jazz.

3 - Line dancing now has very traditional dances to country music, and not so traditional dances to non country music. It now uses more than just the "stereotypical" country music, in fact line dancers dance to most styles of music: country as well as modern pop music, Irish, Latin just to name a few.

Based on per capita ranking of MeetUp Groups in the USA, Durham, N.C. was declared the line dancing capital of America in 2014.

cOOkies :

cOOkies are everywhere!

1 - In computer technology, a cOOkie is a token or short packet of data passed between communicating programs, where the data is typically not meaningful to the recipient program. The contents are opaque and not usually interpreted until the recipient passes the cOOkie data back to the sender or perhaps another program at a later time. cOOkies are used as identifying tokens in many computer applications. When one visits a website, the remote server may leave an HTTP cOOkie on one's computer, where they are often used to authenticate identity upon returning to the website.

2 - cOOkie is the title or name of movies, music groups, a cocktail, a videogame, a mobile phone, novels, magazines and even a character on the Simpsons. By chance, it is also the name of the oldest male Major Mitchell's cockatoo who - hatched in Australia - lived close to 83 years (1933-2015) and mostly in a zoo near Chicago, Illinois. cOOkie has been recognised by the Guinness World Records as the oldest living parrot in the world.

3 - A cOOkie (finally) is a small, flat, sweet, baked good, usually containing flour, eggs, sugar, and either butter, cooking oil or another oil or fat. It may include other ingredients such as raisins, oats, chocolate chips or nuts. In most English-speaking countries except for the US and Canada, crisp cookies are called biscuits (derived from French, no?). cOOkies or biscuits may be mass-produced in factories, made in small bakeries or home-made. cOOkies are often served with beverages such as milk, coffee or tea.

Whatever kind of cOOkie you are - fear the cOOkie monster, because to him C is for cOOkie and who cares what else is there startign with C!

Snow :

1 - Snow is precipitation in the form of flakes of crystalline water ice that falls from clouds.

2 - Since snow is composed of small ice particles, it is a granular material. It has an open and therefore soft, white, and fluffy structure, unless subjected to external pressure. Snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Types that fall in the form of a ball due to melting and refreezing, rather than a flake, are hail, ice pellets or snow grains.

3 - Where relatively warm water bodies are present, for example because of water evaporation from lakes, lake-effect snowfall becomes a concern downwind of the warm lakes within the cold cyclonic flow around the backside of extratropical cyclones. Lake-effect snowfall can be heavy locally. Thundersnow is possible within a cyclone's comma head and within lake effect precipitation bands. In mountainous areas, heavy snow is possible where upslope flow is maximized within windward sides of the terrain at elevation, if the atmosphere is cold enough.

April Showers brings May Flowers :

1 - April shower is rain during the month of April. One of the major causes of the often heavy downpours is the position of the jet stream. In early spring, the jet stream starts to move northwards, allowing large depressions to bring strong winds and rain in from the ocean. In one day the weather can change from springtime sunshine to winter sleet and snow.

2 - Originally "Sweet April showers/Do spring May flowers", was part of a poem recorded in 1610.

3 - Many weather proverbs entwine around April being somewhat unpredictable ("April weather does not change as quickly as the public opinion") and May bringing all the glory of spring. But one things is very true: When it rains in May, April is over.

Top 3 Desserts EVER !!! :

3 - Panna Cotta is an Italian dessert of sweetened cream thickened with gelatin and molded. The cream may be aromatized with rum, coffee, vanilla, or other flavorings. Panna cotta is often served with a coulis of berries, or a sauce of caramel or chocolate. It may be covered with fruit or with liqueurs.
Although the name means 'cooked cream', the ingredients are only warmed enough to dissolve the gelatin and sugar.

2 - Plunder (Danish pastry/Wienerbroed) is a variant of puff pastry made of laminated yeast-leavened doughs, creating a layered texture. The origin of the Danish pastry is often ascribed to a strike amongst bakery workers in Denmark in 1850. The strike made bakery owners to hire workers from abroad, among them several Austrian bakers, who brought along new baking traditions and pastry recipes. The Austrian pastry of Plundergebaeck soon became popular in Denmark. Some are topped with chocolate, pearl sugar, glacé icing and/or slivered nuts and they may be stuffed with a variety of ingredients such as jam or preserves (usually apple or prune), remonce, marzipan and/or custard. In Scandinavia it's Wienerbroed, in Austria (Wien=Vienna) Danish/Copenhagen Plunder.

1 - Kaiserschmarrn is a shredded pancake, which has its name from the Austrian emperor (Kaiser) Franz Joseph I of Austria, who was very fond of it. The pancake is split with two forks into pieces while frying and usually sprinkled with powdered sugar, then served hot with apple or plum sauce or various fruit compotes, including plum, lingonberry, strawberry, or apple. Kaiserschmarren is eaten like a dessert, or it can also be eaten for lunch, as a quite filling meal. It is a popular meal or dessert in Austria, South Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, and northern Croatia.

Best BBQ sauces

1 - Barbecue sauce (also abbreviated BBQ sauce) is used as a flavoring sauce used as a marinade, basting or topping for meat cooked in the barbecue cooking style, including pork or beef ribs and chicken. It is an ubiquitous condiment and is used on many other foods as well

2 - The ingredients vary widely even within individual countries, but most include some variation on vinegar and/or tomato paste as a base, as well as liquid smoke, spices such as mustard and black pepper, and sweeteners such as sugar or molasses.

3 - Early cookbooks did not tend to include recipes for barbecue sauce. The first commercially produced barbecue sauce was made by the Georgia Barbecue Sauce Company in Atlanta, Georgia. Its sauce was advertised for sale in the Atlanta Constitution, January 31, 1909. Heinz released its barbecue sauce in 1940

Chocolate Drinks

1 - Hot chocolate, Spanish style: In Southern Europe, hot chocolate is served very thick due to the use of a thickening agent such as cornstarch. Hot chocolate with churros is the traditional working-man's breakfast in Spain. This style of hot chocolate can be extremely thick, often having the consistency of warm chocolate pudding. It is also offered from white chocolate and might be sprinkled with nuts. A glass of water should be ordered alongside.

2 - Iced chocolate: Similar to a root beer float, a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a high glass that is filled up with cocoa. A typical dish in summer in central Europe in both ice cafés and restaurants. Usually accompanied with whipped cream and a waffle or buiscuit. You should bring your best friend for an idle hour.

3 - Chocolate drinks can be served with spices, nuts, liqueurs, fruit flavours and many more. One of my favorite drinks ever had mint in the lower half of the glass and chocolate in the upper half. Great to look at AND a great combination of flavours!

Fun animals to ride :

1 - Camels are an even-toed ungulate within the genus Camelus, bearing distinctive fatty deposits known as "humps" on their backs. They have been domesticated, provide milk, meat, hair for textiles or goods such as felted pouches, and are working animals with tasks ranging from human transport to bearing loads. They are also called ships of the desert for their rocking walking style. Great opportunity to ride a camel in e.g. Northern Africa. They can reach high running speeds!

2 - Elephants were historically kept for display in the menageries of Ancient Egypt, China, Greece and Rome. In modern circuses, they are trained to perform tricks and after the show (or in a break) k1ds are allowed to climb on their backs to get a photo with them. What would happen when a single adult would ask for that is not known. Elephants usually don't run and have an overall calm character.

3 - Ostriches are large flightless birds native to Africa. It is distinctive in its appearance, with a long neck and legs, and can run at up to about 70 km/h (19 m/s; 43 mph), the fastest land speed of any bird. The ostrich is the largest living species of bird and lays the largest eggs of any living bird. Ostriches have inspired cultures and civilizations for 5,000 years. A statue of Arsinoe II of Egypt riding an ostrich was found in a tomb in Egypt. In Africa, people race each other on the backs of ostriches in the same way as horses with special saddles, reins, and bits. However, they are harder to manage than horses... Within the United States, a tourist attraction in Jacksonville, Florida called 'The Ostrich Farm' opened up in 1892; it and its races became one of the most famous early attractions in the history of Florida. Chandler, Arizona hosts the annual 'Ostrich Festival', which features ostrich races.
